Take action
Interested in taking action to make basic income a reality in Canada? Check out our recommendations about how to get started!
Support Our Work!
BIYC is a youth-led, volunteer-run, grassroots organization with no core funding (we're not a charity!). All BIYC members are volunteers under the age of 35 who donate their time and expertise off the side of their desks.
BIYC always graciously accepts financial contributions to support our work and help us cover our minimal operations costs. No amount is too small - we are scrappy and a little goes a long way! We accept contributions via e-transfer to hello@basicincomeyouth.ca. Please note that because we are not a registered charity, we cannot issue tax receipts.
Engage with friends, family, and neighbours about basic income and poverty
Seriously! We believe that social change happens meaningfully when real relationships are at the core. Our Basic income 101 page is also a good resource to address common questions, and a helpful place to point folks who are being introduced to the idea for the first time. We also have resources that you can view online/download for free, such as our Room to Dream zine and Mini Zines! We will gladly mail you physical copies, just fill out this form!
Write to and speak with your elected officials about basic income
Learn about your elected representatives and where they stand on affordability issues, and then write to them in support of a basic income! Young people showing up to vote, voting strategically within their own ridings, and holding their elected officials accountable can make a real difference in preventing governments from gutting programs that are necessary for survival.
We even have templates that you can build from to contact your municipal, provincial or territorial, and federal elected officials - check this one out that we made for the recent federal election.
If you want to talk to a politician about basic income but aren’t sure how, check out this workshop we facilitated with the Ontario Basic Income Network on this very topic. We’re also happy to attend meetings alongside constituents to support conversations about basic income!
