Take action

Interested in taking action to make basic income a reality in Canada? Check out our recommendations about how to get started!

Support our work

BICYN is a youth-led, volunteer-run, grassroots organization with no core funding (we're not a charity!). All BICYN Steering Committee members are volunteers under the age of 35 who donate their time and expertise off the side of their desks.

BICYN always graciously accepts financial contributions to support our work and help us cover our minimal operations costs. No amount is too small - we are scrappy and a little goes a long way! We accept contributions via e-transfer to hello@basicincomeyouth.ca. Please note that because we are not a registered charity, we cannot issue tax receipts.

Engage with friends, family, and neighbours about basic income and poverty

Seriously! We believe that social change happens meaningfully when real relationships are at the core. Our Basic income 101 page is also a good resource to address common questions, and a helpful place to point folks who are being introduced to the idea for the first time.

Talk about basic income in classes and at community events

This is something we can help with! We regularly speak to classes, community groups, clubs, societies (really, anyone) about basic income - and we love doing it. BICYN is happy to co-design, prepare, and present guest lectures, workshops, and presentations, about basic income generally or a more specific topic. Get in touch to set something up!

Write to and speak with your elected officials about basic income

We even have templates that you can build from to contact your municipal, provincial or territorial, and federal elected officials - check this one out that we made for the recent federal election.

If you want to talk to a politician about basic income but aren’t sure how, check out this workshop we facilitated with the Ontario Basic Income Network on this very topic. We’re also happy to attend meetings alongside constituents to support conversations about basic income!

Join a basic income advocacy group - or volunteer with us!

There are tons of local, regional, provincial, and national basic income advocacy groups in Canada - Basic Income Canada Network has a compiled list of groups here.

We're always looking for volunteers to support with projects big and small, in ways that are meaningful and accessible to them. We’re working on developing an application process - stay tuned! We also regularly share opportunities to get involved via our monthly email newsletter, which you can sign up for here.
